McVeigh’s Gauntlet

Thursday Night, Sept 10 • 7 Holes + a Par-2 Bonus • 1,177 Yards · Par 27

The Arrival Round

We roll into the ranch Thursday and go straight at the Gauntlet. There’s a placeholder tee time at 1 PM, but the course is wide open — we tee off whenever the crew is in. Warm-up round: it doesn’t count toward the five tournament rounds, but bragging rights are live.

The Course
Fantasy Golf on the Ridges
Unlike any other course in Oregon.
The infamous all-carry 2nd hole at McVeigh's Gauntlet — a green perched across a sagebrush ravine
The infamous 2nd hole. All carry. Hover — or tap — for the goat’s take. 🐐
THE STORY
OPENED 2017
Why It Exists
  • Silvies owner Dr. Scott Campbell wanted a true fantasy course — holes you’d see in video games or on fantasy posters, like Bud Chapman’s Infamous 18 Golf Holes.
  • It runs along a series of ridges too steep for carts — but not for goats.
  • Designed by Dan Hixson. 7-hole public executive course, plus a bonus hole.
THE BONUS HOLE
PAR 2
The Only Par 2 in Oregon
  • A 25-yard-ish hole with an extra-large cup on top of a ridge — putt it or chip it.
  • Par it, and you may move your ball up to 7.7 inches in any direction on every remaining hole.
  • There’s beer waiting at the bonus hole. Obviously.
KNOW BEFORE
YOU TEE OFF
Bring Balls. Plural.
  • Hole 2 is all carry — if you can’t consistently fly it 160 yards, reload and laugh.
  • Don’t play it serious. You will lose golf balls — fill your pockets.
  • Hilly but short. Strip your bag down to the clubs you actually need.
  • Soft spikes only. No yardage markers except at the tee.
GOAT CADDIES
MORNINGS ONLY
The Famous Ones
  • This is the goat-caddie course — special harnesses carry two bags with up to six clubs, balls, drinks, and peanuts for the goats.
  • Caddies are limited and work mornings only, assigned by lottery the night before — so our Thursday-night round is a carry-your-own affair. Our goat caddies come Sunday on the Egan Course.
  • Caddie goats (Boer × Kalahari Red crosses raised on the ranch) serve out their caddying years and retire to adoption — and a portion of green fees supports local conservation.
